Asia is a continent loved by many and is often the first choice for many travelers going abroad. Being the largest continent on earth, it offers you the greatest possible variety of things that might interest you. Whether you’re a fan of culture, a foodie, a nature lover or just into relaxing on a paradise island, you’ll find exactly what you are seeking for. Still not convinced? Then let us give you 10 reasons why traveling Asia will be a great choice!
1. Paradise Islands
Most of us have talked about wanting to be on a paradise island, especially during working hours. Well, the image that you’ve got in your head of a paradise island, is widely available in Asia.
2. Delicious food
Ever heard someone talking about how disgusting Asian food is? Probably not, because most of us LOVE it, except for the ones that got themselves the famous Delly Belly. It is no surprise why you’ve got so many Asian restaurants dotted all over the world. The great thing is that every country has their own national dishes, so make sure to try the specialities in whatever country you choose to go to.
3. Amazing cultures
When you open your eyes, you can see culture everywhere. No matter how long you are in Asia, give yourself the opportunity to get a glimpse of the richness of the culture. That doesn’t mean you need to attend all of the Asian festivals, although experiencing the Holi Color festival is definitely an amazing experience.
4. World wonders and other amazing sights
When it comes to sightseeing, your possibilities are endless. The lists of course starts with the Taj Mahal, the Great Wall of China, the temples of Angkor, or even Bagan, but it doesn’t end here!
5. Stunning underwater world
Did you always want to swim with turtles in Indonesia? Or you’re more ambitious and would like to meet up with a whaleshark in the Philippines? Well, whether you are a skilled diver or just a fan of snorkeling, you have plenty to see in below the surface of the water. Watch the many exotically colored fish swimming through the reefs and make sure not to land on a sea urchin as this is definitely NOT on your bucket list.
6. Relatively cheap
Traveling in Asia can be as cheap or expensive as you want, although some countries are definitely more expensive than others, which you can read in our budget guide for Asia.
7. Backpacker culture
Whether you like to party the night away or you are looking for some peace and quiet, the chance that you’ll find like minded people is extremely high. There are a lot of people choosing to go to Asia specifically because of the social aspect of it. Some countries like Thailand or Vietnam are more popular backpacking countries than, for example, India, but even in India you’ll be surprised what kind of people you’ll meet!
8. Great landscapes
Many photographers come to Asia to capture the magnificent nature that Asia offers. We’re not just talking about the paradise island or the scenic rice fields. There is so much more, whether it is thousands of acres of lush jungle landscape, deserts, or one of the many volcanos such as Mount Bromo. So if you are a nature lover, you had better back a pair of decent shoes to prepare for these wonders you’ll find.
9. Experience wildlife
While you could say that Asia is home to many of the most dangerous animals in the entire world, it is also these animals that have tremendous beauty. You’ve got plenty of opportunities to watch wildlife, whether it is going to see elephants in an orphanage in Thailand or spotting leopards on a safari in one of the beautiful parks of Sri Lanka. We highly advise people to always check in advance if the animals are treated well, in case if you’re not seeing them in the wild, as there are still a lot of animals being abused and exploited for the tourist industry. But apart from that, enjoy the wildlife!
10. The people!
Last but definitely not least, this list wouldn’t be complete with naming the local people! Every country is different and has it’s own culture, but in general we can say that the people have been nothing but great. It is highly recommended to learn a few words of the language of the country that you are visiting, as it will turn to smiles on plenty of faces. Always remember that you are visiting a country (some that might have still been at war not too long ago) and that you need to respect the specific culture.
