Cambodian food is not particularly well known outside of Cambodia which is a shame as it can be delicious.
Bai Sach Chrouk
One of the simplest and best known dishes in Cambodia is pork and rice, which is served in the morning for breakfast. The pork is usually grilled and then simply served over a plate of rice with a pickle of cucumbers, daikon radish, and ginger.
Khmer Red Curry
Curries in Cambodia are not as fiery as in other countries like Thailand and they are mainly made with coconut milk which tempers the chilies used. Khmer Red Curry can be made with beef, chicken, fish, or vegetables like eggplant and is often served at celebrations like wedding parties.
The name sounds strange but Fish Amok is simply a fish mousse made with coconut milk and a spice blend including lemongrass, turmeric, garlic, galangal, and shallots. The mouse is usually either boiled or steamed in a banana leaf.
Kdam Chaa is Fried Crab that originated from Kep which is by the sea, but you can now also get it in other parts of Cambodia. The crab is cooked with local Kampot peppers to make a spicy seafood dish that is usually served with rice.
