Operating under a ‘One Country, Two Systems’ policy, Hong Kong can seem like another world compared to Mainland China.
Hong Kong literally means ‘Fragrant Harbour’ and although the waterfront is one of its best features (although not very fragrant!), this is a place where you can see a huge number of different sights located in a very small space. From Kowloon, once the most densely populated place on earth in the 1990s, to wide open beaches and lengthy hiking trails, there seems to be something for everyone here.

If you have a limited amount of time and a tight budget then make sure not to miss Hong Kong Island if only for a picturesque trip on the legendary Star Ferry and a view of the stunning Hong Kong skyline, one of the most iconic sights in the world.
For a change of pace, move on to one of the outlying island like Lamma for a seafood dinner and some scenic hiking. If you don’t fancy a walk around the island, which truthfully won’t take long, then you can head to one of Lamma’s beaches and spend the day on the sand.
Hong Kong is one of the most densely populated places on earth, so if you are brave enough for a taste of this firsthand then move over to Kowloon and check out the markets, local eateries, and traditional shops.
