Many travelers to China say that Yangshuo ends up being one of their favorite destinations thanks to its gorgeous countryside and karst mountains. In this way, people sometimes compare Yangshuo to Ha Long Bay in Vietnam. Yangshuo is part of Guangxi Province and is a small town that used to be a sleepy village before it became famous amongst backpackers to the region.
One of the main attractions in Yangshuo are the karst or limestone mountains and one of the best ways to visit these is to go on a river cruise which will let you take in their haunting beauty from the water. In addition to river cruises, visitors also come here for the outdoor activities on offer, and these include rock climbing, kayaking along the river, and visiting the many caves that dot the area. All of these activities however will often need to be booked as part of a tour, and if this is not really your thing then the best way to explore Yangshuo is to simply rent a bicycle and cycle around and go where the mood takes you. This means that you are more likely to come across ‘hidden’ gems and lesser known beauty spots and gives you more freedom over your schedule and itinerary.
Yangshuo is no longer the cute little village that it used to be but there are still a whole range of things to do here that make it worth a visit. The scenery alone is gorgeous and the outdoor activities are perfect for anyone who has had enough of big cities like Beijing and wants to get out and explore a little bit of the Chinese countryside.
