Indian food is a huge part of the culture and is known for being one of the most delicious cuisines in the world.
North Indian Food
In the north of India you can expect meat and vegetables based dishes, many of which feature tomatoes, onion, and yogurt, and are often served with Indian breads.
South Indian Food
In the south however you are more likely to find mostly vegetarian dishes with chilies and coconut. The south of India also has a range of pancakes rather than heavy breads in the form of dosa, uttapam, and iddli.
For vegetarian travelers in particular, the food scene in India is one of the best in the world, and meat-free dishes like dhal and vegetable pickles are must-try foods when you visit.
If you are a meat eater however, remember that you might not find this all over India and where you are will depend on what is on offer. Hindus do not eat beef and Muslims don’t eat pork, so mainly Christian area like Goa will have the biggest choices of meat dishes available.
