Gili Trawangan is one of the most popular places to visit in Indonesia and there are lots of good reasons for that. First of all, it is easily accessible from the nearby Lombok and Bali. Next to that, there’s not just one Gili Island as you also have Gili Meno and Gili Air on a short boat ride away. Let’s have a look at all the things to do at Gili Trawangan which is by the way often called Gili T.
Bike the island
One of the best things to do in Gili Trawangan is definitely to rent a bike. There are many spots that have bikes for rent and decent prices. Even if you’re normally not comfortable with biking, the lack of any motorized vehicles on the island definitely makes biking a great experience. It takes around an hour to bike through the island and it is definitely an easy way to see everything in a short period of time.
When you arrive on Trawangan, you’ll see hundreds of boats laying around. That means two things, one that the island is definitely very crowded and two that you’ll have plenty of opportunities to enjoy water sports. Whether it is diving, snorkelling or parasailing, all can be found easily on the island. Especially when it comes to diving, you’ve got plenty of options in dive schools and trips. If you love to snorkel, you’ll like Gili Trawangan since it is famous for spotting beautiful turtles!
Enjoy a sunset
Gili Trawangan seems to have the trademark when it comes to beautiful sunsets. Especially on the North-West side of the island, you’ve got the best seat to experience a great sunset. You’ll find plenty of beach bars that offer comfortable bean bags to watch a sunset from while drinking a cocktail, it doesn’t get much better than that!
To party or not to party
Gili T is definitely the party island of the three Gili Islands. There are parties pretty much every night that are well visited by all the younger party crowds. Does that mean that you can’t find any rest on the island? Definitely not as there are plenty of high class accommodations well away from the party areas.
Whether you like to party or not, Gili Trawangan definitely caters for a lot more than that. You’ve got the best facilities of the three Gili Islands, plenty of nice restaurants and shops and a lot opportunities to entertain yourself. However it still is a lazy island that is visited by lots of people, so if you prefer a bit more quietness we’d recommend you to check out Gili Meno or Gili Air.
