Nusa Penida might be one of the best places to visit in Asia and luckily not everybody knows that yet. Although it is easily reached by boat from Sanur Bali, travelers often choose for the more popular destinations in the area such as Nusa Lembongan, Lombok or the Gili Islands. However if you’re ready to be surprised by an island with lush green hills, thousands of palmtrees and impressive limestone cliffs, then look no further and take the boat to Nusa Penida.
There are some people that go on an excursion or a one day Nusa Penida tour, mostly due to the lack of accommodation on Nusa Penida. Unfortunately you won’t be able to enjoy and see all the beauty that this island offers, which is why we recommend you to stay on the island for at least a few days. Especially if you’ve had enough of the more crowded Bali, Nusa Penida can be your perfect alternative.
Whether you’re a world traveler or not, Kelingking point will totally blow you away. It consists of a number of enormous cliffs and the bluest waters. The Kelingking point is like a tyrex going into the sea and it is one of the most impressive things you’ll ever see. It is possible to walk down here, but it is also very dangerous to do so so be smart. If you’re curious to see what it’s like to walk down that tyrex, click here to see a full video about Kelingking point.
A spectacular thing to do is to visit Atuh beach, preferable at sunrise if you’ve got the option. As the road to here is very difficult to drive (see our video of how we got lost going there by motorbike), it can be advised to take a driver if you’re not into the exploring mode. As almost everything is called Atuh beach, make sure to look for Pulau Seribu or Rumah Pohon (a beautiful treehouse we flew our drone from).
As if Atuh beach wasn’t enough, Broken Beach will give you another surprise when it comes to impressive scenery. Like the road to Atuh beach, the way to Broken Beach is also quiet challenging, so take a driver if you’re not comfortable driving through rougher terrain. It takes a while but when you finally get there, you’ll see a huge rock formation with a massive hole in it. There you’ll find a lot of water and a little beach that looks amazing. Broken beach is a great spot for pictures and you definitely don’t want to miss out on this one while exploring Nusa Penida. Click here to watch our entire video of Broken Beach.
This is one of the best, if not the best spot to snorkel in the entire area. Many travelers travel from Bali or Lembongan all the way to this bay to snorkel. The visibility is very good and you can see tons of tropical coloured fish beneath you. If you decide to go there, please know that the current can be very strong so make sure you’ve got a life vest and someone with you if you’re not comfortable enough. Close to Crystal Bay you also have a place called Manta Point where manta rays are seen on a regular base. Due to the current it is not always possible to check it out, but if you’re lucky you might swim with them!
Watersports Nusa Penida
Another thing that is very popular on Nusa Penida is participating in watersports. Whether you just want to ride a jetski or do something more crazy, you’ll be able to find almost anything here. You’ve got a few crazy things you can do such as stepping on a flyboard that is connected to a jetski and pushes you into the air. Not only that, there’s also a thing called the Flying Fish, an activity that is only allowed in Dubai and on Nusa Penida. If you want to see what that is and why it is crazy, click here to check our full video on watersports in Nusa Penida.
