Entry to Japan
In order to qualify for the visa on arrival however you will need to have a return or onward ticket from Japan and have a valid passport.
Citizens of some countries will have to apply for a visa before they travel to Japan although this is often free of charge. Sometimes however, you may be charged an administrative fee for your visa, and as rules change frequently it is better to check first to see the latest regulations.
Extending a visa in Japan is not always straightforward. Some nationalities can extend the free visa for up to 3 months and others can’t extend it at all and will have to leave Japan and re-enter on a new visa.
If you overstay on your visa the penalties in Japan can be severe and can include detention, deportation, and blacklisting.
