Money and Costs
Comparatively compared to other countries like Indonesia, Malaysia is said to be expensive, although it is still incredibly cheap by Western standards and if you eat local food and stay in backpacker accommodation then it is no more expensive than its neighbors.

The currency in Malaysia is called the Malaysian Ringgit (MYR) although in shops you will see prices displayed with RM (Ringgit Malaysia) in front of them.
ATMs and credit cards
ATMs are in plentiful in Malaysia in all but the most remote areas such as islands and inside national parks so plan your finances if you are going off the beaten track for any length of time.
Credit cards are accepted in many shops and businesses except for small ones so check first if you want to make a purchase.
