Money and Costs
As a tropical island destination, the Philippines is generally a bit more expensive than mainland Southeast Asia, but still affordable.
from $38 per day for solo travelers and $55 for couples.
The Philippine Peso (PHP) is the national currency, which you can withdraw from ATMs in any city and bigger towns.
Some rural destinations have developed tourism faster than infrastructure, requiring visitors to plan ahead and bring in all the cash they’ll need.
Also, don’t put off a trip to the bank to the last minute, since ATMs are known to run out on weekends, paydays, or national holidays.
Like everywhere else in Southeast Asia, expect a small fee for every ATM transaction, and take the appropriate safety measures to protect yourself from scams.
Try not to use your credit card in local businesses (usually limited to cities where there are merchants) to reduce the risk of stolen credit or debit card information.
