Tangalle is one of the less traveled places in Sri Lanka which is somewhat strange as it has some of the best beaches of the entire country. It it located in the south coast of Sri Lanka, about 195km south of the capital Colombo and easily reached from others places such as Mirissa. It is also very nearby the Yala and Udawalawe national park, making it a convenient location to spend some time.

Another beach that can’t missed on this list is Goyambokka beach. It is much smaller than Tangalle beach, but it’s definitely more cute. If you actually walk a little bit further, you can find another small bay with a hidden beach alongside with a nice hut to enjoy the view.
This beach might be on of the best beaches of Sri Lanka. Although part of it is owned by the big resort Amanvella, at the end you’ll find a public beach that you can enjoy. There are tons of palmtrees, the sand is super soft and you even have a swing that makes everything perfect. For us this is officially the best beach of Tangalle.
The village of Tangalle might not be the prettiest or most modern in Sri Lanka but everything seems to work fine the way it is. You can get most of the things you need if you search well enough and especially when it comes to bananas, you won’t be disappointed!
When it comes to surfing, you want to check out Hiriketiya beach. It has some of the best surf of Sri Lanka, which is why for some people it is also one of the best beaches of Sri Lanka. You’ve got beginners waves on the left side of the bay and pro waves at the right side meaning there’s a lot of fun for both the beginning and more advances surfer. It is about13 kilometres from Tangalle, so you’ll have to take a tuktuk or motorbike to get there, but it is certainly a thing you won’t regret!
Tangalle might be one of those Asia destinations that will develop quickly in the coming years and it is definitely one of the places to see in Sri Lanka. Although the village isn’t the most appealing, you’ll meet wonderful people that are interested to have a little chat as they don’t experience that much tourism. On top of that, you’ll be spending most of your time laying on one of these paradise beaches anyway.
