Some of the better and more challenging surfing spots are actually in a little town called Midigama, which lies right next to Weligama. If you’re an experienced surfer, you’ll want to look for surfing spots such as Ram’s, Lazy Left and the Coconut Spot. If you want to learn how to surf you’ll have the perfect opportunity at Weligama Bay. You can find plenty of small waves to practice and everywhere there are surfboards for rent. The bay is pretty big and has tons of beautiful fishing boats in the water, as it is also a fishing village that greatly depends on catching fish. When you get a bit away from the main street you’ll be able to find some local markets that are an interesting experience if you’re into local culture.
Have you ever wanted to conquer your fear of snakes? Or you’re just really intrigued by them? Then we’ve got one really cool tip for you which is to head to the snake farm near Weligama (Snake in Sri Lanka, D.A. Vipul Waydyasena, Udukawa). This snake farm has been more than 100 years in the same family and you can feel the experience. They catch snakes in places where they don’t belong and release them every few weeks in the Yala National Park.
Be aware that this snake farm is just at the house of the owner and you’ll actually be having some of the world’s deadliest snakes right next to you. At the beginning we were quiet scared but at some time we got quiet relaxed around them mostly due to the very calm owner who was very skillful with the snakes. He educated us perfectly and was very knowledgeable. We can recommend this activity to anyone that is comfortable and open enough to learn about these intriguing creatures. Oh and if you want to see how we held a highly venomous cobra, then click here to watch our video!
